NC Hammer

Who is NC Hammer? Where did we come from?

NC Hammer was formed in February, 2009 with the intention to play in the GPXL, a newly formed XBall league.  The brainchild of Alex Kvasnicka, the organization was created during a difficult financial period for most of the paintball world.  This initial hurdle was dramatically reduced in height by the plans to perform referee duties for the EPL, a well managed local tournament series.

The first team meeting was held at Hi5, a sports bar in Raleigh’s Glenwood district.  Most of the original members were present for this event where the team’s name was created in a moment of brevity.  Many of the suggested names were voted on and after the initial ideas had run the gauntlet, the name “NC Hammer” was regurgitated by Tim Suber.  The implications of the simplicity coupled with an inferred reference to the oft ridiculed musician became an instant favorite.  A few moments of laughter followed by a round of serious consideration was all it took to accept the idea.

The primary goal of the team is to build a strong organization that will compete in both regional and national events.  Based on a clearly stated moral foundation, we expect members to display good sportsmanship and to take the role of ambassadors for the sport seriously.

Coached by Steven Holden, and captained by Alex Kvasnika, the team has adopted a strict but fair structure.  Players sign an agreement and a firm set of rules for behavior and performance are expected to be followed.  There are no favorites and everyone, including the captain and officers, are made aware of what is acceptable.  We promote a good work ethic while tempering that with an atmosphere of fun and excitement.

We are based out of the Raleigh area, with members scattered across the state.  Our home field is Real McCoy’s in Princeton, NC which has a full sized XBall field as well as a regulation NPPL field.

The GPXL never took off and this left the team with a healthy bankroll from the EPL series events and several options:

  1. Take the year off and practice.
  2. Play small regional events such as EPL North, ACTS and CFOA 5man.
  3. Enter the CFOA Xball series.

The decision was made to enter the CFOA X-Ball series as a division 3 and division 4 X-Ball team. The first event that NC Hammer participated in was CFOA's X-Ball 3.
